TCM Spotlight: Myrna Loy And William Powell Collection [DVD]
William Powell re-teamed with Myrna Loy after the first "Thin Man" movie for "Evelyn Prentice" (1934), an expert thriller in which Powell plays a womanizing lawyer whose adulterous affair leads to blackmail, deceit, and murder. Una Merkel, Harvey Stephens, and Rosalind Russell, in her debut, also star. Then, "Manhattan Melodrama" (1934) is a compelling crime drama starring Powell and Clark Gable as boyhood friends from the New York streets who grow up to follow different paths, one as a gangster, the other as a crusading D.A. Loy and Mickey Rooney co-star. "Double Wedding" (1937) is a frantic screwball story with Powell as a Bohemian painter and Loy as a workaholic dress shop owner who spar over Loy's younger sister's life choices. Edgar Kennedy co-stars. Stodgy businessman Powell is headed for divorce from wife Loy when a konk on the head reverts him back to his real persona of a slick con artist, in "I Love You Again" (1940). And, in "Love Crazy" (1941), Powell and Loy are a married couple whose fourth wedding anniversary is not a happy affair, thanks to a series of events that occur after Loy's gossipy mother visits. Returning to the Big Apple, Gable reverts to his gambling ways and meets an old flame who threatens to turn him over to the law. The
Paul Newman Collection [DVD] DVD
In the role that made him a star, Paul Newman is middleweight boxing champ Rocky
Graziano in Robert Wise's Oscar-winning biodrama, "Somebody up There Likes Me"
(1956). Steve McQueen co-stars. Newman portrays notorious outlaw Billy the Kid
in director Arthur Penn's first feature, "The Left-Handed Gun" (1958). An ambitious
lawyer's (Newman) dark past comes back to haunt him while defending a war buddy
who's been accused of murder, in "The Young Philadelphians" (1959). With Barbara
Rush, Robert Vaughn. Newman plays Ross MacDonald's cool private eye in "Harper"
(1966) and again in "The Drowning Pool" (1975) which follows the detective to
New Orleans where he tries to find out who's been blackmailing an ex-girlfriend
(Joanne Woodward).
Rock
Hudson: Screen Legend Collection [DVD] DVD
Man's man Rock Hudson heats up the screen in a three-disc, five-film set! When
a rich, old man (Charles Coburn) leaves a fortune to the family of a woman he
once loved, a soda jerk (Hudson) finds he's no longer the perfect lad for the
clan's daughter, in "Has Anybody Seen My Gal?" (1952). Piper Laurie, Gigi Perreau
co-star. Rock flexes his pecs in the Arabian-flavored costume epic "The Golden
Blade" (1953), journeying to Baghdad on a mission of vengeance. Laurie, Gene
Evans co-star. Hudson wears the white hat, and Kirk Douglas the black, in the
muscular Western "The Last Sunset" (1961), with Dorothy Malone and Joseph Cotten.
Giving an intense performance, Hudson plays an egotistical doctor working in
the jungle, in "The Spiral Road" (1962) Burl Ives, Gena Rowlands also star.
And playboy Rock is asked to woo psychiatrist Leslie Caron by her father (Charles
Boyer) in the romantic comedy "A Very Special Favor" (1965). Walter

Gary
Cooper: The Signature Collection [DVD] DVD
Former Confederate officer Gary Cooper poses as a U.S. marshal to bring down
some outlaw brothers in the rough-and-tumble Texas town of "Dallas" (1950).
Ruth Roman, Steve Cochran co-star. Coop is a disgraced Union officer who joins
up with a band of horse rustlers working for the Confederacy, but whose side
is he really on, in "Springfield Rifle" (1952). With Phyllis Thaxter, Lon Chaney,
Jr. Charlton Heston co-stars with Cooper in "The Wreck of the Mary Deare" (1959),
the story of a ship salvager who helps the lone remaining crew member of a grounded
boat who is accused of destroying the vessel. This five-disc set also includes

finest efforts, where the boys attend a lodge convention against their wives'
wishes...and get into oodles of trouble. Co-stars Charley Chase, Mae Busch.
Followed by four shorts: the Oscar-winning "The Music Box" (1932), where the
pair struggle to deliver a piano to a hilltop house; "Another Fine Mess" (1930),
in which the boys hide out from the cops in a swank mansion; "Busy Bodies" (1933)
finds them making sawdust of a lumber company; and "County Hospital" (1932)
has Stan visiting a laid-up Ollie in the hospital...with predictable results.

One of the screen's most dynamic duos returns for a trio of comedic treasures.
First, a young woman in the Wild West town of Bushwood Gulch is about to lose
her father's deed to land grabbers, when galloping to the rescue come...Laurel
and Hardy? The feature-length frontier farce "Way Out West" (1937) includes
the classic song "Trail of the Lonesome Pine." With Rosina Lawrence, Stanley
Fields. Next, Ollie is reunited in a veterans hospital with old army pal Stan,
who stayed in the trenches for 20 years because no one told him the war was

when the vessel shipwrecks on a South Seas island. Lombard, George Burns and
